Charging our batteries in Port Hedland & taking the staircase to the moon in Broome..

After Karijini we took a small break to charge our batteries, I mean literally, on a powered campsite in Port Hedland charging everything. After the remoteness for a while it was nice to not worry about electricity or water, having internet and be able to shower every day :) Next to the giant supermarkets and Mc Donald’s there wasn’t however much to see so relaxing all the way! We did a small day trip to Karratha (I say ‘small' but actually it was a 5h return drive) as the FeNaCIng festival was going on over there. Looked more like our annual fair (legendary 'Kermis De Kikker’ in Liedekerke) but it was nice to see something going on in one of these towns.

Port Hedland brought us further toooo Broome! But before arriving there we witnessed a huge bush fire alongside the road, what a terrifying thing to see! As you’re driving next to a wall of fire you see behind it the complete black lands it has left behind. It’s very hard to grasp until you’ve seen it with your own eyes. Apologies if that sounded too cocky, I just speak for myself completely if I say that I heard of bushfires, seen the damage they had done but never truly understood what it’s like.

It’s quite busy over here in Broome but my heart skipped a beat seeing more than one store, bar and restaurant when we came in. I’m thrilled already ;)

We were super lucky as we were just in town for the Staircase to the moon and its Staircase markets. Two days per month the moonrise and the tides of the water create this wonderful phenomena. Next to the beach there were tons of food trucks and some acoustic music to complete this evening activity, must do when in Broome at the right time!

I swam in the sea at Cable Beach, which is indeed very beautiful, and I survived! I’m pretty thrilled to see what Broome has still in stock for us!
